New Entertainment Section in Star Walk 2

Star Walk 2 got even more entertaining! Now, in addition to exploring the night sky, you can dive into the fascinating world of astronomy in a playful way — through quizzes, infographics, and cartoons.

What’s new?

You’ll now find an Entertainment section right in the main menu of the app. It includes:

• Space Quizzes: Fun and educational games where you choose the answer and immediately see if you got it right. At the end, you’ll get your score — and don’t worry, the goal here isn’t just winning, it’s learning! The quiz questions shuffle and update regularly, so you can take them more than once and discover something new each time.

• Infographics: Image sets that explain astronomical events in a clear and simple way. Swipe through beautifully designed slides to better understand phenomena like eclipses, planetary alignments, equinoxes, and more.

• Space Cartoons: This section from the previous version is still here! The short animated videos explain space concepts in simple terms — perfect for kids, but adults love them too.

Why did we add an entertainment section?

First off, we wanted to make Star Walk 2 even better for people who already love it. Our typical users are curious and relaxed — they enjoy the app’s soothing music, stunning visuals, and immersive 3D models.

Many don’t use the celestial map outdoors all the time since clear skies and a chance to escape city lights rarely line up. But they keep coming back to the app, and we truly value that. Often, they simply open it at home to admire constellations set against the cozy backdrop of their living rooms while learning fun facts about space. To expand this activity, we’ve added an entertainment section with quizzes, infographics, and cartoons that provide a fun and easy way to learn astronomy anytime, without a telescope or clear skies.

From a developer’s point of view, adding features that can be enjoyed anytime — and that include a bit of gamification — is very useful. It encourages people to come back to the app more often and engage with it in new ways. With this update, Star Walk 2 isn’t just a stargazing tool — it’s also a fun space-themed game.

Adding this feature makes learning about space more engaging. It helps people stay curious, and enjoy astronomy without feeling overwhelmed by complicated terms or tools. Plus, it gives users something fresh and fun to do, beyond just reading or scanning star maps.

On top of that, adding the Entertainment section felt like the most natural and effective way to refresh Star Walk 2 while also highlighting the differences between it and our other stargazing app, Sky Tonight. We've always envisioned the two apps evolving in different directions — Star Walk 2 is more about relaxing and exploring space for fun, while Sky Tonight focuses on advanced tools and features for more serious stargazing. This ensures that users can choose the app that best suits their interests and needs.

By expanding Star Walk 2's entertainment features, we're giving users even more reasons to enjoy the Universe without the hassle while still maintaining Sky Tonight as the go-to app for deeper stargazing. It's a win-win that makes both apps stronger and more focused.

Where does our entertainment section come from?

If you've ever visited our space-themed website, starwalk.space, you might recognize some familiar content. We've had Quizzes and Infographics on the site for quite a while, and those were the perfect starting point for building the new Entertainment section in Star Walk 2. Of course, we adapted the content to better fit the app. For example, the infographics on the website are long, scrollable images, but in the app, we split them into squares so it’s easier to swipe on a phone.

The space cartoons were originally created for our Star Walk Kids app and have actually been part of Star Walk 2 for some time, too. Before, they felt a little out of place on their own — but now, as part of the new Entertainment section, they fit in perfectly.
