Star Walk 2 Just Got Better

Sep 11, 2025
Star Walk 2 Big Update

We’ve packed Star Walk 2 with features over the years — sky map, astronomy calendar, news, quizzes, infographics… You name it. We can’t help it — we just love sharing space knowledge. This update makes all those pieces play together like a real orchestra (not the squeaky school band), so you spend less time tapping and more time exploring the sky.

Get all the content in one place

Star Walk 2: Info Card Update
Tap an object on the sky map, open its info card, and you’ll now find a button to take a quiz and a section with a related article.

Now, exploring objects on the sky map gives you more than a 3D model and a few facts. Star Walk 2 comes with a whole library of astronomy quizzes, and some of them are now tied directly to the objects you tap. If a quiz exists – for example, about the Moon, a planet, or even the ISS – you’ll see a button to try it right away. And if there’s an article, you can open it straight from the same screen without hunting through the news feed. Everything you need to explore space (or to show off your astronomy smarts) is now in one place.

Get around without the extra taps

Navigation got a power-up, too. You can move between panels and easily return to the previous one, without having to start over each time. The sky map also has a back button now. Say you’re reading an article or exploring an object’s info, and you want to see that object in the sky. Jump to the sky map, check it out – and with one tap, you’re right back where you started. No more feeling lost in space – just smooth, simple navigation wherever you are in the app. Altogether, the whole experience feels easier for both newcomers and seasoned stargazers.

Jump straight to the stars

SW2 Update: Sky Live and Visible Tonight
Tap an object in SkyLive or hit the new button in Visible Tonight — both take you straight to the sky map.

This one was long overdue: in Sky Live, you can finally tap an object and jump straight to it on the sky map. And in Visible Tonight, a new button takes you straight from the panel to the sky map, showing you the object or event in its actual place above. No more staring at a list of events thinking, “Cool, but now what?”

Browse news without hassle

The News feed now feels more like a real information hub. You can now search for what you need and open related articles directly from one another. Also, external links are now clearly marked too, so no more surprise trips to the browser. And when a link can take you either to an article or to the sky map, you’ll get a handy alert to choose what you prefer. Best of all, the News window now doesn’t shove itself in your face whenever an article is updated. Now you can browse news when you want to.

Skip the agony of choice

Star Walk 2 Update: Quizzes
Space Quizzes got smarter: now you can pick your favorite topic — or let the app surprise you with a Random Quiz.

Scrolling through a giant list of quizzes? Yeah, nobody’s got time for that. That’s why there’s now a Random Quiz button. One tap, and you’re dropped into a quiz you might never have picked yourself – quick, easy, and full of discoveries you might have missed in the night sky.
