Star Walk 2 - Icon Rebranding of the Best Astronomy Guide

May 4, 2017

Vito Technology has announced the icon rebranding with the newly released update to Star Walk 2 app, company's best-selling stargazing guide for iOS and Android devices. The A/B testing conducted with the help of Google Play showed the inefficiency of its’ glamour white icon. That’s why the decision was made to change it. The newly icon is made in dark blue colors with branded Ursa Major asterism turned in the opposite direction with the horizon and few twinkle stars on it. Alongside the change of the icon the company releases a version with major bug fixes and improvements.

Google Play for A/B testing was used to verify the hypothesis stated by the company: “Is the white background detrimental? Would it help to mirror the branded reverse Ursa Major to correct position? Can we come up with other changes to generate more installs?” Multiple tests conducted in Google Play Experiments proved that the original white icon was an outsider. The dark blue icon with the horizon has won several times outperforming all of its rivals. The branded Ursa Major pointed in the wrong direction showed better conversions in comparison to the commonly known asterism called Big Dipper.

Alongside the change of the icon the company releases a version with major bug fixes and improvements.
