Introduction

Welcome to VITO Theme Editor: a complete solution for creating your own themes for Pocket PC.
Theme Editor provides you with everything you need to design and install a theme for Windows mobile 5.0 or 2003 Pocket PCs, and yet has simple and intuitive user interface.

Activation

Downloadable version of VITO Theme Editor is fully functional and has to be purchased and activated after 14-day trial period.

To activate:

make sure, your computer is connected to the internet
start Theme Editor
goto Menu > Help > Registration, type in your activation code from the e-mail you received from VITO after purchasing Theme Editor and press [Activate now].

In case you can't connect to Internet from your PC, activation will take more time: click Activate off-line and carefully read instructions in the pop-up window. After you've performed the necessary action you will receive an e-mail with the necessary instructions for completing your activation.

Note: as you can see on-line activation is much easier than the off-line variant, which can take considerably more time. We recommend you on-line activation.

Interface

Theme Editor's user interface consists of 3 panels and slider:

Left: system variables list
List of elements, you can edit to change theme's appearance
Upper right: preview screen
Here you can see the result of your actions
Lower right: message screen
Shows information about current element and actions you can perfom

Slider is used to select previewed windows of edited theme.

Settings and options

To simplify user interface we tried not to overload it with settings.
Options, you can change:

View > Change background color
Selects background of the preview screen
View > Autoscroll preview
If it is checked, preview screen will show the Pocket PC's window that will be affected by changes you apply to current element.

Getting started

To start a new theme:

Go to Menu > File > Create new theme
Choose the operating system of your device (Windows mobile 2003 - CE 3.0, Windows Mobile 5.0 - CE 5.0)

You will see that there are much more options for WM 2003 themes, they are locked in WM 5.0 devices and all elements of the theme are based on one color.
Note: You can open and edit one of the deafult themes that are kept in "My Documents/My Device Themes" folder.

Theme editing

It's simple: just click on a box to the right of an element you want to edit and choose a color or a picture for background.
Note: don't forget about information screen. It can be quite useful.

Saving and Installing theme

There are several actions you can perform to complete editing your theme:

Menu > File > Save theme (or Menu > File > Save theme as...)
to save theme for future editing. The theme will be saved to file with .theme extension.
Menu > File > Export theme to file
to create native windows mobile theme file (.tsk) that can be assigned as a theme for your device.
Menu > File > Upload theme to device
if device is connected to your Desktop via activesync, you can immediately assign your project as a theme for your device.

Note."Save theme" only saves current project, if you want to edit it later (resulting file can be read only by VITO Theme Editor). To create a file (.tsk), that you can use as a theme on your device , click "Export theme to file" or "Upload theme to device".

To install created theme to your device:

- Connect your device to Desktop PC via ActiveSync
- Go to Menu and choose File > Upload theme to device
- Type in a name for your theme and click [OK] (The theme will be copied to "Windows" folder of your device)
- On your Pocket PC go to Start > Setting > Today
- Choose your theme from the list and click [OK]

- Go to Menu and choose File > Export theme to file
- Type in a name for your file and click [Save]
- Copy the created file to "My documents" or "Windows" folder of your device
- On your device go to Start > Setting > Today
- Choose your theme from the list and click [OK]
